A different Dal !

Ingredients

Moong dal (Green gram ) - 1/2 cup
Onion(small) - 1 no.
Tomato - 1 no.
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Asafoetida - 1/4 tsp
Green chilli - 2 nos
Carrot(grated) - 1 no.
Garlic - 1 clove
Pepper powder - 1/2 tsp
Salt to taste
Oil
coriander leaves for garnish
Ghee (optional) - 1 tbsp
For seasoning:
Mustard - 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds  - 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves

Method 


Pressure cook moong dal with turmeric powder,asafoetida,garlic & chopped tomato with enough water.(For me its take 3-4 whistles).Once done and when the pressure releases mash it finely and keep side.

Now heat oil in a pan and add mustard,cumin seeds,curry leaves... let them splutter.
Then add chopped onions followed by green chillies.Saute them for a while and then add grated carrot.
Sprinkle some water cover and let  cook over for 5 to 6 min.
When done add mashed dal ,1/2 cup water ,salt and pepper powder.Add ghee(but its purely optional).
Bring to boil over low flame.Gernish with coriander leaves.Serve with chappthi or parotta.

If you want spicy adjusts with more chillies or pepper powder.
Suggestion : You can also add corn kennels,fried panner to the dal.
